Australia’s largest hardwood manufacturer is inviting architects, engineers, specifiers, and building developers to visit its state-of-the-art MASSLAM facility in Heyfields, Victoria, as part of an August 14 2024 Open Day.
“We are extending an invitation to specifiers to witness the intricate process of MASSLAM production and receive first-hand lessons in cost efficiency, quality and buildability,” according to Daniel Wright, Australian Sustainable Hardwoods National Business Development Director, responsible for producing the glue-laminated timber system.
“Attendees will be taken on a comprehensive tour of our production, machining and finishing sheds, giving you a detailed understanding of how raw materials are transformed into sustainable, high-performance building solutions,” he added.
What is MASSLAM, and why do you need to know about it?
MASSLAM is a high-strength, visually appealing, affordable, ‘ready to construct’ column and beam system for residential and large-scale commercial buildings. Using Australian-grown, superior-strength timber, “the MASSLAM range of products offers significant benefits compared with other mass timber options worldwide,” according to Australian Sustainable Hardwoods.
Last year, MASSLAM became Australia’s first mass timber glulam system to hold Engineered Wood Products Association of Australasia certification and was used extensively in T3 Collingwood – Australia’s tallest mass timber building and the first to be funded under the Australian Clean Energy Finance Corporation’s Timber Encouragement Policy.
During the tour, Australian Sustainable Hardwoods will offer attendees a rare opportunity to engage with its highly skilled and experienced team of MASSLAM designers and engineers,at the forefront of timber technology. In addition, they will also share their insights into the design, engineering, and application of MASSLAM in various construction applications.
“This interactive experience offers a rare glimpse into the technical and creative aspects of mass timber production, providing valuable knowledge to industry professionals not just looking to specify mass timber in their next project, but embed cost efficiency into design and installation,” Mr Wright said.
