One of Australia’s largest structural timber producers is expanding into Shepperton, with the Hyne Group securing Pallet & Bin Pty Ltd as part of its rapidly expanding Hyne Pallets division.

Now comprising Melbourne-based Rodpak, Express Pallets and Crates (in Queensland), and West Australian Pinetec, the latest acquisition, which manufactures products for Australia’s largest food producers, comes as Hyne establishes itself as a power player in Australia’s pallet supply chain.

“Clients include five of Australia’s largest food producers, and this offers further diversity opportunities for our national pallet customer base,” according to Jim Bindon, CEO of the 143-year-old company. “Shepparton is also strategically located between Hyne Timber’s Tumbarumba sawmill and key Melbourne metropolitan markets, offering solid locational synergies for raw material timber supply and freight efficiencies.”

Hyne’s latest move follows its expansion into the Australian Garden Care division last year through the acquisition of Rocky Point Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Basset Barks on the Sunshine Coast, and majority owners James Jones and Sons Ltd’s announcement of the acquisition of United Box Ltd. United Box Ltd was initially formed as a joint venture in 2003 by James Jones & Sons Ltd and Scott Group Ltd. United Box manufactures and distributes agricultural boxes and is a valued supplier to the food industry across the UK and Ireland.

“Our recent acquisitions, combined with a progressive investment philosophy, are part of our disciplined global strategy, and these two additions to our Group demonstrate our strong support of the rural and farming communities in the UK and Australia,” according to Tom Bruce-Jones, Chairman of James Jones & Sons Group. “This broadens our product portfolio and provides confidence to all our vertically integrated local supply chain end users, particularly given the current global trade war.”
