Progressive Queensland hardwood sawmill and treated timber specialist Parkside Timber is part of the Parkside Group, a 4th generation family-owned business with operations spread over four sites – Wondai, Wandoan, Eidsvold and Theodore.

One of Australia’s largest hardwood sawmillers, Parkside, has been operating for over 75 years.

Wondai dry mill… a world-class hardwood dry mill facility, the cornerstone to the Parkside sawmilling operations.

Treated products include high-value spotted gum, ironbark and forest red gum manufactured under strict quality systems delivering timber of the highest standard.

All treatment at these mills is via vacuum pressure Impregnation (VPI) using H3 ACQ (alkaline copper quaternary) treatment.

The pole yard at Eidsvold also uses VPI, but the treatment is H5 CCA (chromate copper arsenate) for transmission poles.

Parkside Timber’s Queensland operations also include a dry mill based at Wondai that utilises state-of-the-art scanning, docking, and stacking at coating lines producing a variety of KD hardwood products.

Much of the forest resource supplying the Parkside mills is controlled under the internationally recognised PEFC management systems.

Parkside Timber focuses on cutting edge technology for hardwood products such as high-value spotted gum, ironbark and forest red gum, all certified under internationally recognised PEFC management systems.

In 2022, the Parkside Group identified a gap in the business to manage the private native resource, and from this, Parkside Forestry was founded.

This resource provides the Queensland timber industry with about 250,000 cubic metres of sawlog per annum, while the state forest resource supplies about 90,000 cubic metres per annum.

“The large and valuable resource from private forests will be critical to the future of the Queensland timber industry, and Parkside is at the forefront in establishing a value-added solution for landholders,” said Ross Lakin, development manager, sawmilling, based at Wondai.

Parkside Timber supplies quality products Australia-wide through most merchants and wholesale distributors.

“We export a small portion to New Zealand and Southeast Asia, both developing markets,” Ross said.

“All green off saw (GOS) and kiln-dried products are H3 treated at our mills regardless of species due to being either lyctus susceptible and because all sapwood is only recognised as durability Class 4.”

Parkside Timber has a proud history of producing some of the finest quality hardwood timber products for generations offering a wide variety of species and products including, but not limited to, F27 hardwood, glulam posts and beams, decking and solid flooring.

“Our range is strong and durable and an attractive feature for any home,” Ross added.
