The 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Athletes’ Village will include an eco-precinct with “abundant vegetation”, according to Inside the Games.
In June, Wood Central revealed the Queensland Government will look to mass timber as its preferred construction materials for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Athlete Villages.
The main village will be constructed on the Hamilton waterfront, with smaller accommodations slated for the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Kooralbyn, near the rowing venue.
In October 2022, the Queensland Government accelerated plans for the athlete village with Planning Minister Steven Miles approving the Northshore Hamilton Priority Development Area (PDA) expansion.
Wood Central understands that the latest plans will embrace urban greening, with extensively vegetated spaces on the ground, facades, and roofs.
The green areas will form an essential site element covering 304 hectares of riverside parkland and vegetation.
The Queensland Government has predicted that the area will become “Brisbane’s connected, sustainable and welcoming riverfront precinct.”
The area’s recovery is expected to cost AUD 12.6 billion and will host 10,500 athletes and officials during the Olympics and 5,000 Paralympic athletes during the Paralympic Games.
Post Games, the precinct will deliver a diverse residential offering, including aged care, retirement living, social and affordable housing, key worker, hotel, build-to-rent, and market accommodations.
This includes 1,750 affordable housing units, which according to the State Government, will be the ‘dual legacy’ of the games.
The Village will be constructed on Economic Development Queensland-owned land within the Northshore Hamilton PDA, declared in 2008.
Steven Miles, Queensland’s Deputy Premier, said, “It’s estimated Northshore Hamilton will have over 14,000 dwellings and be home to over 24,000 residents to help meet south-east Queensland’s fast-growing population.”
The buildings will use recycled and low-carbon materials, with extensive use of plants to refresh the spaces and integrate the landscape near the river.
Last week, Queensland State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed that 1,000 new homes are due to be built in the area close to the Village before the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics following a land audit.
The Brisbane 2032 Olympics will open on July 23 2032.
